The Innovation Centre of the University of Latvia LUMIC welcomes to participate in the new stage of the free digital skills development course “Virtual Internships in the Baltics” to improve knowledge and promote career growth opportunities.

The survey conducted by the Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA) and SolidData shows that 67% of the Latvian population were requested digital skills, when starting an employment relationship. Research data show that digital skills have become a daily necessity for every person.

“You are welcome to get a competitive advantage in the international labour market by learning the digital skills programme and applying for virtual internships intended for every growth-oriented person. Virtual Internships in the Baltics are a unique project, within which digital skills in theory and also in practice can be mastered online. Course lectures are also available as a recording, which might be particularly useful for many people, because they can connect to classes at any convenient time and start participation in the programme later”, Professor Signe Bāliņa, Latvian Information and communications technology association (LIKTA) president explain the opportunities of the project.

During the course, interested persons have access to study courses on different topics of information and communication technologies. The inhabitants of the Baltic Countries will master skills of working with business data analysis in training cycles “Business and Data Analysis”, will learn to create programmes and apps for computers and mobile phones in “Low-code/No-code” courses, learn the foundations of “Python” programming and how to administer Microsoft 365 account. The knowledge learned during the courses will be useful in creating real added value for companies – for example, simplifying and automating the business process, simplifying the process of preparation of reports and preparation of statistical reports, as well as simplifying the development of software and mobile apps.

The aim of “Virtual Internships in the Baltics” is to provide digital skills development courses to 30 thousand Baltic inhabitants, of whom at least nine thousand will certify their knowledge by getting a relevant international certificate and get the right to participate in a virtual internship in different companies and organisations of the Baltic countries.

The Project is implemented by LIKTA in cooperation with the Innovation Centre of the University of Latvia LUMIC, the Baltic Computer Academy, the ISM University of Management and Economics in Vilnius, “INFOBALT” Association in Lithuania and ITL Estonia. The initiative is implemented with financial support of the Microsoft Philanthropies grant programme, providing an opportunity to learn modern competences and digital skills with a benefit for regional companies and programme participants. At this stage, the courses will be held in Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian, while training materials are available in English.
